WSCW potter throws bowl for Mason Empty Bowls 2017
WSCW Helps Fight Hunger By Making Bowls For Mason Empty Bowls 2017

WSCW instructors, students and studio artists are throwing and handbuilding bowls for the upcoming Empty Bowls event hosted by Mason Community Grange #1680.

The third annual Mason Empty Bowls soup luncheon will be held 11 am to 2 pm, Saturday, April 8, at the Mason Grange Hall in Mason.

Luncheon attendees select a bowl from hundreds created and donated by local potters, artisans and students. Then, they dine on their choice of soup, bread and dessert, which is prepared and donated by area restaurants, chefs and bakers.

Over the last two years, WSCW potters, instructors and students have donated hundreds of bowls to Mason Empty Bowls, helping raise nearly $16,000 to fight hunger and food insecurity among area residents.

This year, all proceeds benefit Kings Local Food Pantry in South Lebanon and the Schuh Center Food Pantry in Mason. Together, the two pantries help feed about 800 households each month in the Kings, Mason, Lebanon and Lakota school districts.

Tickets are $20 per adult, which includes food and a bowl. A $5 food-only ticket also is available for children under 12. The event will include a Silent Auction and additional donated pottery for sale.

Tickets can be purchased at WSCW during Open Studio hours, or online at the Mason Empty Bowls website.

For more information, visit MasonEmptyBowls.org.

Time to Register for WSCW's
Summer Clay Camp for Kids

We have begun accepting registrations for our
two one-week Summer Clay Camps for Kids.

Each creatively themed camp runs from 9 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday, and includes five three-hour, instructor-led classes, clay, tools, glazes and firings. Tuition is $165 per child for each camp.

Week 1—Animals, Animals, Animals. (ages 7 and older)
If your child loves to explore nature and loves animals, this is the camp for them. Campers will learn how to express themselves in clay by exploring various hand building and texturing techniques while creating animal-related projects. The children will have the opportunity to paint and glaze each project. Campers can pick up their projects in about two weeks, after they have been high-fired in the kiln.

Weeks 2 & 3—Wheel Throwing (ages 10 and older)
During this focused camp on wheel throwing, campers will learn about form and function. They will learn how to create bowls, cylinders and plates on the pottery wheel. We will alter pieces, attach handles and trim them. Foot rings will be discussed and investigated. Campers will have the opportunity to glaze select projects. The items will be fired and available for pickup about two weeks after the conclusion of camp.

Sign up for:

Week 1, June 12 -16, or
Week 2, July 10 - 14, or
Week 3, Auguat 7 - 11, or
all three!

Each camp runs from:
9:00 a.m. - Noon, Monday - Friday
